Cameron High School has had many senior wrestlers, some leading the team to great heights. This year there is only one, Kemper Kellerstrass. He has been a leader to his fellow teammates, and this year, Kemper will be the most-experienced wrestler on the varsity team and will be wrestling at the 140-pound weight class. He has accomplished a lot during his high school career. In his freshman year, he went 37-2, getting fifth at the state wrestling tournament. Sophomore year he went 34-3, receiving 3rd at state. Last year he was second at state, with the record of 34-4. With this experience, he knows what to expect during this final year in high school.

As well as being great on the mat, Kemper excels off the mat. "He is a total class act," says Head Coach Mr. Wake. "He has been a good leader since he entered my practice as a freshmen. He has a tremendous work ethicvery tenacious as an athlete."

Wrestling has been underestimated on how tough it really is. You can't judge until you actually try it. "Wrestling is a sport where it is all on you," said Coach Wake. "There isn't anybody throwing you the ball, nobody blocking for you. It is just up to you. It is the toughest high school sport, physically. The individual results of the wrestlers do count on the team score, so you do work as a team, but when you are in a match, it is all you."

Wrestling entered into Kemper's head at an early age. "My dad suggested that I try wrestling at the age of 7," says Kemper. "I loved it right from the beginning."

Kemper has taken on the challenge of being the only Senior and likes it.

"Being the only Senior is cool. It is like having a spotlight on me, but I like it," Kemper says. "It comes with responsibility and leadership, and those are good to deal with."

"I think Kemper is a great wrestler. He is also a nice guy," says fellow wrestler Sophomore Tyler Daniel. "If you come into our practice and watch Kemper, you can tell that he is never slacking, constantly working. Kemp is never cocky and always thinks about his teammates."

The Senior wrestler is ready for the season and has many people, including teammates, looking up to him. He will have a lot of support from fans and family who are hoping for that first place trophy. He has the ability to get it, but either way he'll go down in the record books as the lone ranger at CHS.
