UNCOMMON SENSE: War and Military Action
-
Advertising
On Saturday March 19, The United states launched a total of 112 cruise missiles at Tripoli in efforts to aid in the Libyan rebellion’s cause to overthrow Dictator Moammar Gadhafi. Gadhafi has been mercilessly attacking his own people for over a month now. The Unites States, Great Britain, and France decided it was time to intervene before more needless lives were lost and oil prices rose any higher.

Most people are now upset and angry because the U.S. is involved in another “war”, but I’m here to tell you this is not true. The average Joe would guesstimate we have been to war many many times throughout our nation’s great history. The average Joe would be incorrect. The United States of America has been to war a total of five times in our entire past. Our congress has issued a congressional declaration of war for The War of 1812, The Mexican-American War, the Spanish-American War, World War One, and World War Two. Every other time we have sent military out, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, we have taken military action.

President Obama has said himself the attacks on Libya are “limited military action.” Before everyone starts freaking out we aren’t planning of declaring war on Libya. We even tried sitting idly by and allowed things to escalate as high as they have, but to my surprise President Obama realized the time to act was now. As Americans, people who have the best of everything and are truly free, it is our duty to protect innocent people who are wrongfully being treated by oppressive government. Not only is it our duty to the people, but our economy is at risk by not acting.

With the conflict in Libya oil and gas prices have skyrocketed, as I’m sure all drivers are aware. This is a huge strain on our already weakened economy. There was no other choice but to take military action. Keep in mind we are not at war with Libya though.

We can argue all we want if this was the correct thing to do or if it was a brash move on our part, but what is done is done. We can’t change what has happened and we can’t say, “Sorry I didn’t mean to bomb you, whoops, my bad.” We made the decision and now we will see the beneficial effects or the painful consequences.
