The Big Picture: Graduation

You always hear about how time flies. No one ever told me it flies like a freaking X-43A jet! It seems like just yesterday I was coming into high school as a scared little freshman, and now in a couple weeks, I will be making the long-awaited walk in my cap and gown during graduation. Cue the waterworks.

I know I always complained about having to go to school, but in hindsight, it really wasn’t bad at all. Sure, there was a lot of homework and projects, but nothing I couldn’t handle. It really does help prepare us for the future by creating a solid work ethic...as long as we actually do the work. At least I could actually see my friends and spend time with them. We’ve created bonds we will never forget. Because of them, many great memories were made in high school.

I’m going to miss being able to see my friends every day. We had our inside jokes and pranks. We laughed together, cried together, even fought with each other. They served as my legs when my own couldn’t support me. We have been with each other through thick and thin. I couldn’t ask for better high school friends and I really appreciate all they have done for me. I can’t believe next year I won’t be coming back to these familiar hallways and faces every morning.

Every day I talk about how I can’t wait to graduate, but the realization of the upcoming event didn’t really hit me until our first graduation practice. We received our letter that we wrote to ourselves towards the end of our 8th grade year. Enclosed in my envelope along with my letter were photos from my 14th birthday party. It was weird to see how much I had changed. I can’t wait to get my letter I wrote in Mrs. Goodwin’s class my freshman year, back when I viewed graduation as a faraway chapter in my life that I didn’t have to worry about for a long time. I must’ve blinked because here I am at the end of my senior year getting ready to go off to college.

There are people who look back at some of the things they regret in high school, but as for me, I enjoyed it all for the most part. I have nothing to regret, just experiences I have learned from to help me do better in the future. I wouldn’t have all these great memories to look back on if it weren’t for my friends and teachers. I would like to thank my friends for being there for me, and I would like to thank my teachers for helping me get through high school and pointing me in the right directions.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone on The Tank for all the jokes, laughter, and fun times in Newspaper class. We may have felt like strangling each other at times, but it’s all tough love. I have really enjoyed my time as an editor. Good luck next year and keep cranking out awesome stories. You guys are great!
