Softball Team Steals the Season

Cameron High School’s Girls Softball Team has had an amazing season this year. Though the season started in the fall, some of the girls on the team have been playing and practicing year round. They are an exciting team to watch, and they are good at what they do. The team practices every day after school.

Ms. Kristy McIntosh coaches the team. She said, “My expectations for the season and the girls have been high from the start. I expect them to win. As the girls can tell you I do not take defeat very well. They say the worst practice all year is the practice after a loss. I expect them to work until they are perfect every pitch and every swing.”

It seems the girls have done just that. This year they have won the Cameron Tournament and finished second place in the Mid Buchanan and Benton Tournaments. They have also hit 23 home runs this year, which is a school record. “We are looking forward to the district tournament this week and hopefully we will be bringing home the first ever district softball title to Cameron,” Coach McIntosh said.

A major reason for the softball team’s success is they play well together. The team motto this year is “We’re not just a team, we are family .” This represents us well,” said Coach McIntosh, “None of the girls really care who the leader is on the team or who is scores the winning run. They are just happy we are winning and for the success of every girl.”

Freshman Medeya Granado plays right field on the softball team. “My favorite thing about softball is hanging out with my friends and learning new techniques to make us better. I think the season has been going really good, and the varsity has done amazing!”

The varsity members also feel they are doing well. Sophomore Kelsey Estes said, “I like to win. I love being around my teammates. I just love the whole sport!” Kelsey loves softball so much, she plays it year round!

The softball team definitely has a shot at the district title. They have a lot of great players who work well together. Their hard work has really paid off. They have done extremely well and the community hopes they continue to do so. Good work and good luck!
