Ivan Ross, a sophomore, Jake Roozen, a senior, Rebecca Ruther, a junior, and David Roth,a senior, were just some of the amazing acts at open mic night. It was held in the Platte Canyon High School auditorium on Thursday April 9, 2009. There was a medium sized audience that came to give their comments and appreciation to the performers.
Open Mic Night is not for everyone. Some people are too scared to be in front of an audience and perform, but Ross is not one of those people. He is a second year pro at performing at Open Mic Night. “Its nerve racking at first, but then it goes away,” quoted Ross about being in front of people.
Practice is the key to a flawless performance. Ross said that he put a lot of time in because he creates his own songs and his own beats. Ross decided to perform at Open Mic Night to show off his talented skills at rapping.
Paul Sloniger, who is a junior, is a rookie when it comes to performing in front of audiences. “It’s hard to pay attention to what you are doing when you are in front of an audience of your peers.” Sloniger played a guitar piece with some lyrics. It was Sloniger’s first time singing and he thought he did pretty well.
David Roth, a senior, is no inexperienced person when it comes to playing guitar and singing. “To be honest, its not that scary,” said Roth when asked about performing in front of people. The guitar part is the hardest when it comes to playing and singing at the same time. Roth loves to perform in front of people.
Both Roth and Sloniger are having another concert in a week on Thursday for their advanced guitar class. The Advanced guitar class’ concert will be almost like open mic night, but only people from that class can perform and act.
Open Mic Night is now a tradition for all of Platte Canyon High School. Anyone can do it as long as their act is some what entertaining.
