Local dancers can be seen all around Platte Canyon High School halls.  Girls around the school love to dance.  They say it is one of the many things that help make their day better.  Standing next to them makes people feel a little larger than usual.

They have dainty hands and feet. Their abdominal muscles are also rock hard and quite strong. The girls all love what they do even if it’s just a past time and not a life long goal.  Without dance, many would spend their after school time sitting on the sofa and eating potato chips.

Abbey Backes says, “I love to dance but sometimes I get angry when I can’t do something.”  She also says that she has been dancing for most of her life.  Backes also sells candy for money for her dance studio.  She says, “I bet everyone is getting sick of me selling candy all the time.”  However, the school enjoys a quick little snack every once in a while.

Kari Peterson says that dance is a way for her to relax and just do something that she lives to do.  Kari also says that she has been dancing since she can remember. Unlike Backes, Peterson doesn’t sell candy but says that it would be a great fundraiser, especially for the kids at our school.  Kari loves dancing with all of her friends and has made many friends just from dancing

Both girls have many other activities that they enjoy doing other things than dance.  Peterson enjoys drawing and creating works of art.  Backes says she just has a ball with her friends and has been selling more and more candy for a trip to Chicago, Illinois.  She’s “super excited” and glad to be going with her friends.

Rachel Rosso feels that dance is her life.  Without dance she wouldn’t know what to do with herself.  She feels dancing is a way to express her feelings and thoughts.  Dance is something she is excellent at and enjoys doing.

Dancing is a very physical sport.  Many girls push themselves in order to achieve their best.  Toes are often sacrificed for point.  Point is a type of dance where the girl stands on her tip toes in shoes with wood where the toes are.  Girls also get very hard muscles with a lot of physical stretch.

Dancing may not be the most important thing in the girls’ life but they love to dance.  Backes and Peterson hope to keep dancing through high school and maybe even into their college life.  Rosso says she just isn’t sure what’s next for dance in her life.
