Have you ever fibbed about something… and that fib turned into a lie… and that lie turned into a huge mess? Well, telling a fib can lead to many things; people can get hurt from rumors.
Sometimes the offender knows spreading rumors about you will have a negative effect and they would do just about anything to make you hurt, cry, or feel the pain. As long as they know that you got hurt, then they feel like they accomplished something.
A rumor can change a person’s life. I have had many rumors spread about me. It affected my life in so many ways. For example, some people would say personal and embarrassing things about me, and it hurt right in the worst spot. It is not fun to come into school and walk the hallways, having people stare at you like you’re a whole different person. It is kind of like you’re not from “their” world. Every step I’d take I felt like no matter what I would say it wouldn’t make a difference because everyone has their own opinion and they will believe what they want to believe (even though they usually believe what the offender says).
But in the end I learned four things. One is that if I hear something about someone that is personal or embarrassing, to confront that person. Secondly, maybe I should ignore the rumor. The third thing is not to care what people think, because people will believe what they want to believe. And fourth, that life is worth living and I would not want to stress and worry about little pointless rumors or drama because it can seriously ruin a life.
“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile,” Albert Einstein said. So make good decisions, and when you hear something, just think of how you would feel if that were you.
