One word that has been on everyone’s minds since the unexpected vacation in January is snow. Snowstorms. Snow days. Show shovels. What started out as a simple snowstorm turned into a full week off from school. And as anyone can tell you, the fact that our snow vacation was thrown right in between December and February vacations made it even greater. The small little fact that seniors don’t have to make up snow days has made this snow vacation even sweeter for AHS seniors. A week off from school and you don’t have to make it up? Sounds awesome to me. Although there’s been a lot of discussion lately about whether the administration might try to change the rules and make the seniors make up some of the snow days, I highly doubt (although I really don’t have any proof to back this up) that we will be forced to make them up. As much as they might not want us to miss out on any “valuable class time”, there really wouldn’t be much point to try to force seniors to make up the days we missed. One simple reason is the fact that by the end of May, when they might try to force us to make up that days, most seniors won’t really be that concerned about making up snow days that we missed all the ay back in January. Also, isn’t there some sort of rule that says that seniors don’t have to start making up now days until we have more than 9? Well, Even if it isn’t a real rule, it is definitely the opinion shared by most AHS seniors who are concerned about lots of snow days.
As important as snow has been in everyone’s lives in the past month, most people are getting a little tired of it. I’ve heard more than one person complain about how it’s only February and we better not get any more snow. Who really wants to shovel their driveway? Clear off their car? Drive in the snow? (With tons of people who have no idea how to drive in the snow?) I’m thinking that if we’re going to have any more snow, the school should definitely consider having a delay in the morning. That way, student will be in a good mood because they got to sleep in and teachers will be happy because we won’t miss another full day of school. As much as some people are concerned about snow days and missing school, for a lot of seniors, senioritis has already started. And it’s only February. An overload of homework, projects, tests and science fair (for the lucky few who get to experience that) has gotten many seniors wondering how they are ever going to last until May 27th. However, most are just trying to survive until April vacation because it’s just downhill from there.
Snow. So why has everyone been so obsessed with it lately? I think everyone would be much better off if we obsessed over stuff we can look forward to, like spring, vacation, the sun, the beach, summer…
