High School proposed plans -
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—Taylor County Schools have taken plans to construct new buildings a step further. At the board meeting on March 8, architects presented designs for a new primary center and a new high school. As a student, I am very excited for these new schools and the opportunities they will bring.
First of all, our current facilities are not adequate. The quality of buildings we currently have falls well below the level of talent and ability that our students possess. Taylor County is full of students who excel athletically, musically, and academically. We deserve buildings that will help us reach our maximum potential. Haley Franklin, show choir member, said “We really need an auditorium so that we don’t have to try to turn the middle school gym into one every spring.”
I agree, it is a big job and it puts their gym totally out of commission for a week. As a member of show choir and band, I know what it’s like to work really hard and then give a first-class musical performance in a room designed for something totally different. Basketball player Caleb Wigginton said a new gym would allow us to host a regional tournament for the first time in years.
Administrators in the district agree—we need new schools. Mr. Clifford, TCES principal, said, “The new primary building will have larger classrooms with more storage. The size of our current classrooms falls below state guidelines.” Mr. Higdon, TCHS principal, is thankful for new buildings both as a parent and as an employee. He said, “New facilities will provide all students in Taylor County with an optimal environment to receive their education.”
I feel that new schools will be a huge step towards success for both our students and our community.
