Lincoln High School Athletic Director, Kenyatta Scott, raised over $3,000 for AIDS research by running a 26.2-mile marathon in New Orleans on February 27th. In the 40th annual Mardi Gras Marathon, Scott didn't finish at the top, but he wasn't the last one to receive a custom medallion at the finish line in the Louisiana Superdome placing #1028 in his gender.

The National AIDS marathon Training Program is designed for both experienced and inexperienced runners. Runners are set up with a training group and prepare until the start of the marathon. Scott trained with one of said groups from Sep 18 until the marathon began, using the “Jeff Galloway Method”. He also did his own individual training on Saturdays.

The race was run through the geographically flat, but physically beautiful city of New Orleans by over one thousand marathoners. There was also a half-marathon, a Five-K run/walk and a one mile fund run/walk.

Scott blames his mediocre place on a foot injuring that had previously affected him during his training. Although Scott claims to have the ability to do better, he doesn't plan on running in the marathon next year.

"It's too hard to raise the $3,000 minimum to be able to participate,” Scott said.
