Lincoln’s track team is hosting their first ever track meet called the “Mustang Invitational” on March 19, 2005.

The “Mustang Invitational” is at San Francisco State where both private and public schools are coming to compete. This is the first year the annual meet is not the “Wildcat Invitational” hosted by Saint Ignatius. S.I opted to give it to Lincoln.

“We’re really excited to host our first invitational and hopefully there will be many more to come,” junior long distance runner Amanda Conn said.

The track team finished second behind Lowell high school last year. This year, their front-runners are all juniors: long distance runners Corey He, Wayland Chan, Collin Leung, Amanda Conn, Lucy Leung, and Jennifer Lee, and sprinters Monica Chan, Dana Fong, and Natasha Tayes.

“We always expected to do the best but we don’t have any seniors this year”, head coach David Chen said.

The sprinters usually run the 80-meter run during the past but are just recently running the 400- meters. With practice, they are now comfortable with the change.

“So far, I think that we know how to run the 400, it won’t be as hard,” junior sprinter Monica Chan said.

The Team’s goals are to win goal medals in both the 100 meters and the 400 meters.

The tack team is looking for new runners. They practice everyday running at various places like the polo field in Golden Gate Park, around the school or at the reservoir.

“We want to build a better team, it doesn’t matter how good you are just as long as you’re committed,” captain junior Corey He said.

The three top junior runners: Cory He, Collin Leung and Wayland Chan were on the team since their freshman year.

“Because of our long time running together, we’re like family,” Chan said.

Leadership on this team does not exist, they respect one another and rather look at everything as a equal.

Chan hopes for the best, but believes his runners are prepared for the invitational.

“We’re going to be fine,” Chan said.
