“I give basketball my all. I believe that being a leader brings more opportunities to the table,” Chappelle said.

As captain of the junior varsity Lady Generals, Chappelle focuses not only on basketball, but on grades as well, maintaining a 3.5 GPA cumulative average.

“She’s one of the hardest working, and she’s driven to succeed,” head girls basketball coach Craig Machut said.

Although Chappelle has a great interest in basketball, she spends her spare time drawing and has designed shirts and hoodies for the class of 2013.

In December, Chappelle wrote a letter to the Journal Sentinel, upset about the attention the boys basketball teams received versus the girls basketball teams who had also won a game. The King’s Page featured Chappelle’s letter in the last issue.

Chappelle has always felt it unfair that boys basketball receives more recognition than girls basketball, but she never lets that destroy her motivation to achieve more.

“Raeven always takes the initiative to do everything, which is part of what a leader does because as soon as she takes that first step, we’re right behind her,” junior Deja Garner said.

Machut agrees Chappelle has a great work ethic, along with basketball intelligence and passion.

“I expect her to keep improving throughout the season and to keep leading,” Machut said.
