As football season comes to an end, Escambia High’s varsity team has proven the value of teamwork with their accomplishments this fall.

Playing as a team and not as individuals is a key factor to winning. The varsity team learned the value of a team this season. Physical and mental preparations took a toll in this year’s season. Summer work outs and harder practices made a difference this year.

“Through hard work and regimented practices, we do the same thing over and over and over until they are very confident in doing it,” said Coach Nichols, head varsity coach.

Varsity’s biggest accomplishment was their record. Concluding with a very respectable five wins to five losses, this season was more successful in winning than last season, which was a big reason for the team coming together.

“Our biggest improvement was the team working together as a team more, and our attitudes changed big time,” said Cody Helton, Escambia High’s right guard.

The most memorable win for the varsity team was victory against Pace. Coach Nichols said that the athletes played the way they were trained to play.

Star running back Trent Richardson agrees with Coach Nichols. “I never had the opportunity to play against Pace until this year, and it was a deserved win.”

Although the varsity team will be losing a great group of seniors this year, Coach Nichols feels that next year should be their best year because they are only losing four players on offense and all the players on defense will be returning next year. Escambia High’s football program is building and will keep building as the years go on.
