The ladies’ golf team hot chocolate and coffee fundraiser has begun.
Each Tuesday and Thursday morning, Mrs. Tammy Kirkland sets up the morning beverages for students to either trade cans for, or purchase, in the lobby. A small size costs a dollar, and a large size costs two dollars.

The cans that are donated will go to United We Are, a club sponsored by our own Dean Cannada-Wynn. When students come to the lobby, if they have a can to donate, they get a free cup of hot chocolate or coffee. If students decide to purchase a cup, the money goes toward the ladies’ golf team.

Kirkland, who has sponsored the golf team for many years, plans to spend the money by purchasing new equipment, especially for clubs and uniforms for next year.

“I would really like to raise about $800,” she said.

Second-year golfer Betsy Dawson thinks this fundraiser is great, but she stated “We normally only have two a year, and that’s not enough.”

Dawson hopes to get equipment such as golf balls, tees, and markers out of the money raised.
Freshman Teddy Walker, who purchased a delicious cup of hot chocolate one frigid Pensacola morning, plans to purchase a cup each Tuesday and Thursday.

“On these recently cold days, the warm drink makes me feel warm inside,” he said.
With the cans and extra money Kirkland raises, she gives back to the families in need in the community.

“I try to sponsor a family every year; one at Thanksgiving, and one at Christmas,” she said.

Kirkland plans to sponsor a Manna Food Bank at Escambia High School to help collect food for needy families and a charity, as well as raise money for her golf team.
