GET INVOLVED: President Wade Price has secured thousands of dollars for the campus. "Joining Rocket Boosters is a perfect opportunity, with minimal time investment, to learn more about what is going on at school," he said. - Amy Madanat
"Parents, coaches, teachers, students, and administration working together, always striving to improve academics, athletics, fine arts, and school spirit within the Moon Valley High School community,” is the mission of the Rocket Boosters, a parent, teacher organization supporting all activities at Moon Valley High School.
“In the last two years, I think that the most important contribution that the Rocket Boosters have given to the MVHS community is our breadth of support,” Wade Price, Rocket Booster president, commented.
Meetings are held the first Monday of every month and membership fees are $10. During meetings, activities, financing, and fund-raising are discussed at every meeting.
“Joining Rocket Boosters is a perfect opportunity, with minimal time investment, to not only get involved, but to learn more about what is going on at school,” Price explained.
The club supports all activities at Moon Valley and is “trying to foster an environment of communication between parents, coaches and staff.”
One key opportunity Rocket Boosters tries to provide is scholarships for graduating seniors. Last school year, the club was able to support 10 graduates in continuing their education after high school.
The scholarships given are not for students in the top 15% of their class, they are designed specifically for students who have shown growth in their education by improving through their high school careers.
“We like to give scholarships to students who are striving to continue their growth in college or trade school after graduation,” Price explained
The club supports Rocket Town and sponsors Student of the Month.
“We have also donated money or aided fund raising for a wide variety of clubs and sports at Moon Valley,” Price explained.
Last school year, some of the sports teams and clubs sponsored by Rocket Boosters included: golf, soccer, football and baseball, Link Crew, the Robotics Team, and the Moon Valley faculty.
Rocket Boosters also worked to secure a grant to help make this year’s multi-cultural celebration, I Am Moon Valley, happen this year.
“With increased involvement, we can raise additional funds for our general donations or target them for individual activities. We need parents who want to get involved to support specific activities, but are also willing to work for the entire community.” Price emphasized.
Currently, membership of the club is sitting around 3%.
“With a school of over 1500 students, if only 20% of families join the Rocket Boosters, that is $3000 that can be used for supporting campus activities,” Price explained. “You can see what a significant impact increased membership can have, through a minimal personal investment, for all students at MVHS,” he added.
Price said that the question isn’t, ‘Why should I join Rocket Boosters?’ but rather, ‘Why shouldn’t I join?’
