Laforge tears up the track.

Before two surgeries within the span of one year, Jake Laforge ranked among the top five amateur motorcross racers in New England.

When it comes to racing, danger is not a factor for Laforge.
"When I'm out on the track I don't think about anything else but winning."

Laforge has been sidelined from the track since Labor Day because he tore both labrums in his shoulders.

He will not be out of the race for long, for Laforge plans on racing in a professional Canadian National race.

Being one of the top young riders in New England also has its perks. Laforge is sponsored by Oakley sunglasses and receives all of the company's new models for free.

Racing has also given Laforge the opportunity to meet motorcross legends such as Travis Pastrana, and James Stewart.

Laforge began riding at the age of five and says his father is responsible for hooking him on his passion.

As soon as Laforge hit the throttle, he learned at a 100 mph pace. He entered his first race at the age of six and won his first championship at the ripe old age of seven.

Laforge didn't just get on a dirt bike and start racing. The sport takes a great amount of time and effort.

Training and riding are everyday events.

"If I'm not in the gym, I'm either out riding or running."

Laforge does not necessarily enjoy the training.  "All of it is tough. Yesterday, I had to go on an 11 mile bike ride."

When Laforge is riding he has a choice between his Kawasaki KX250, KX125, or his KX250F. Out of the three, the KX250 is his favorite.

Laforge also offered some advice to someone thinking about trying motorcross.

"If your thinking about doing it, just do it."
