Seniors Sean Corriveau, Ethan Ridley, Mark Laforge, Jesse Turcotte, and Chris Goodman have made a big decision that will soon impact their lives. After being recruited for the United States Army, they will be going off to war after they walk down the stage with their diploma in their hands.
These boys will soon be living like an Army soldier on base, learning drills, and finding out how their lives will significantly change after June 5, 2009.
Sean Corriveau, one who has always had his eye on the Army started to peruse his dream February of his junior year. " I have always wanted to do this," he stated. He attended boot camp in South Carolina this past summer. Corriveau commented, "It was hot and humid, but I had fun." He is now signed up to do his trade as a carpentry/masonry specialist, however he soon hopes to switch into infantry in the near future. "I will hopefully be deployed in September, or will stay on base till they need me," as Corriveau talked about his life ahead of him. "I really want to stay in the Army and not move on from it," stated hopeful Corriveau.
Ethan Ridley, Corriveau's long time friend, stated "Corriveau and I want to go to war together." Ridley also attended boot camp this past summer at a different location in Kentucky. "It was terrible, torture, they fist you in the side, and it hurts mentally," he stated. "War will be chaotic" but Ridley is excited for the opportunity that lies ahead of him. "My trade so far is a truck driver, but I am definitely going to switch to infantry." Ridley reports back to boot camp this summer, and will be "hopefully in Iraq by August".
Laforge, has taken the ASVAP Army Test and is waiting for his results. "When I get my ASVAP back I'll know more." He also commented on saying that he has always wanted to go into the army and September 11th, definitely made him want to join. His parents are supportive as well, "they're alright with it," he smiled.
Turcotte and Goodman are enlisted and will be soon tested for their tests and destinations for boot camp.
All these seniors are looking forward to the destination that lies ahead of them.
