“Many people think cheering is rah, rah but its really not,” laughed Freshman Emily Ahern, as she commented about her club cheerleading competion trip last week.

As many students were off soaking up the rays during April Vacation; freshman Emily Ahern, sophmore Taylor Shelton and junior Shaelah Farrell attended a week long cheerleading competion in Florida. Around eighty teams world wide competed in Orlando, Florida.

All three have been cheering for the same team, Celebrity, for years, but this was the best outcome yet at Worlds. They placed second in the world and hold the title until next year.

For the girls, it wasn’t really a vacation. They got on a plane, went to several practices, hung out with their team by the pool, then competed at night.  However, the trip was worth it, according to the cheerleaders.

Finally the last day of competion, the girls gave it their all and were suprised with the results.

Ahern and Shelton stated, “ It was crazy...two teams were left and we placed second, it finally payed off!”

The girls had a great time but reality struck fast for them. They had to jump on a plane and head home to start working out and fundraising for the next competion.

“Hard work pays off, but I was at the airport at 6 AM so I could go to school and be in my track meet this afternoon!” exclaimed Shelton.

All three cheerleaders hit the books when arriving home. Shelton and Ahern participated in their track meet on the day they returned from Florida.

Busy back at school, but thrilled to have won, the girls continued cheer practice the same day hoping to get first on their next World’s next April.
