According to a survey of local schools, summer reading assignments in other schools is similar to the summer reading assignments at Tyngsboro High School.
In Tyngsboro High School all students in the same grade have to read the
same books. Students are tested on both books the second day of school.
Some summer reading programs in other towns in Massachusetts do not have tests right after the summer break. Some schools only have to read one book and then they would have to read some poems and write about what they read over the summer.
The Stoneham (Mass.) High School website explains that students get one book the whole grade has to read and the other book they get to choose from a list over 20 books.
According to the Dracut High School website, students there have to read two books, but they get to choose one of the two books from a list. Students are either tested or assigned a project on the books during the first week.
Alvirne High School (Hudson, NH) students have to read two books and write short essays and take quizzes, yet the seniors don't have any reading requirements.
Needham High School has to read three books and take a test. The Boston Latin School's website shows that students have to read five books and all grades read the same books and must complete one report for each book.
