On March 24, 2010 in Tyngsboro High School’s auditorium, the second annual Tyngsboro’s Got Talent was held with great success. Over 200 tickets were sold and the audience members were not disappointed.

The sophomore trio of Elizabeth Barrett, Allison Green, and Maryrose Robson kicked off the night with their performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” accompanied by instrumentals of keyboard, flute, and saxophone played by Barrett, Green, and Robson respectably.

The performance was one of many musical collaborations of the night which also included seniors Alverina Berube and Erika McCormack singing “Hallelujah” with Berube playing guitar. Other duet performances included sophomore Matt Durkin and junior Mike Walker performing “Feeling Good”, junior Tianna Sutton and sophomore Janeen Silva singing a mellowed acoustic version of Rhianna’s “What’s My Name?” accompanied by Sutton on guitar, and sophomore Jared Cruz with junior Jeff Blute (on guitar) singing an acoustic take on Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”.

Some students chose to perform their acts alone.

Junior Sam Trottier sang Nickelback’s “Photograph” while playing guitar and senior Katie O’Connor played and sang “Iris” by the Goo-Goo Dolls and “Mean” by Taylor Swift on guitar as well.

High school students were not the only people eligible to participate. Many talented middle school students also graced the stage with their talents.

There were two group performances at the show. One group of seventh graders, called The Brunettes, serenaded the audience with Cee-Lo Green’s “Forget You”. The other group of sixth grade girls were called Lucky Stars and performed a dance routine to a Japanese pop song.

Other performances included sixth grader Makenzie Reekie singing “Amazing Grace” acapella, seventh grader Alyssa Ciszek singing “Outside My Window”, and eighth graders Briana Ledger who danced a funky tap dance routine and Dakota O’Driscoll who played guitar and sang “Soul Shine”.

At the end of the night, following a performance by the cast of The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Tyngsboro High School’s award winning theatre program, the winners of Tyngsboro’s Got Talent were announced.

Finishing in first place was senior Katie O’Connor, in second place eighth grader Dakota O’Driscoll, and in third place were Matt Durkin, Mike Walker, and Sam Trottier. Jared Cruz and Jeff Blute’s performance was named the Honorable Mention of the night.
