The Tyngsborough High School drama program performed a comedic and entertaining musical called Urinetown April 7th to the 9th. Once again, the actors and actresses amazed the audience with wonderful vocals and splendid characterization.

“It was nice because there were so many featured parts, so everyone got an opportunity to sing,” said principal Don Ciampa.

Urinetown is a humorous musical that tells a story of a boy named Bobby Strong (sophomore, Ben Barker) who starts a revolt among the poor people so they can gain freedom to pee for free. Strong faces difficulty because the owner of Urine Good Company Inc., Mr. Cladwell (sophomore, David Ziemlak), is relying on the fees to recieve compensation from the senator (senior, Ken Clougher). While Strong fights for freedom he falls in love with Mr. Cladwell’s daughter, Hope. As Strong is sent to “Urinetown,” Hope carries his dreams and leads the people to triumph.

The music of the performance was upbeat and humorous. The most laughable scene was “Don’t Be the Bunny” performed by Ziemlak and his supporters. The best scene and song was “Follow Your Heart,” where Hope and Strong explore their feelings for each other.

All of the actors and actresses displayed amazing talent. The enxemble blended their voices together very nicely, and created upbeat harmony. Barker, Ziemlak, Ashley Donavan, and Hannah Adams all transformed to their characters, allowing the audience to feel a sense of reality and believability.

“I think that the actors and actresses have so much potential at a young age,” said senior Jen Allen.

The sets and costumes were very unique. During the scenes where the poor and rich shared the stage, the rich people stood on a seven foot platform. The front of the platform resembled a sewer wall, complete with piping. This was used to create the effect of the rich people talking down into the sewer to the poor people. The costumes were appropriate and symbolized the personality of all the characters.

Urinetown was a unique and amusing musical, and the cast did an excellent job performing it. All of the actors and actresses proved high quality talent and vocals. This was another wonderful performance from the drama program.
