Every year, Everett High's drama club spends many personal hours after school to perform for a spectacular hour or so every middle and end of the school year. This winter, be ready for the Victorian era love story "Frankenstein."
Written in the early 1800's, this is a story about love, courage, and life lessons. Here to represent these are 11 primary characters and about 15 chorus members.
Auditions were held October 13th, and extra chorus member auditions were on November 3rd. Now that everyone has a part, they have about 10 weeks to spend on rehearsing.
"This is a little bit longer than we normally have to spend on getting things ready and down," said Antonovich. But for 90% of the play being a musical, "this is a good thing!"
One thing that may catch you by surprise might be the prices that this can all come down to. Just as far as rights to use the play are about $1,700. The drama club also tacks on another $1,000 for costumes and make-up, $500 for professional lighting, and about $500 for various painting and prop set-up.
However, this play is fairly inexpensive.
"When you start getting into the bigger and more popular musicals; rights can cost up to $3000," says Antonovich.
But when it all boils down to it, the actors/actresses are worth all of the money spent. Junior Eric Bayne—Victor Frankenstein—is the lead character and is loving it.
“This is the first lead role that I’ve ever had. I wasn’t really sure that I was going to get it either,” says Eric.
As his first year in drama club here at Everett High, he is nervous but excited and has “no major concerns.”
