The presidential inauguration had by far the biggest turnout in history of presidential inaugurations as 1.8 million people crowded the national mall to watch Barack Obama become the 44th president.
Another 38 million Americans turned in to watch the inauguration on television, according to Neilsen Media Research.
At Highland Park it was a moment that many people will cherish. Televisions were on in classrooms all over the building as students and staff watched the events live.
In the main office, Mrs. Pam Gentry cheered, “Obama, Obama, Obama.”
To many, Obama’s inauguration proved that you can be anything you want to be when you set your mind to it.
“Obama has inspired me that things can happen,” said senior Sadie Barba
Seeing Obama sworn in was a moment people never thought would happen.
“I feel great simply because he’s paving the way for the younger generation and I certainly hope to meet him in person one day,” Mr. George Hampton, freshman English teacher.
Sophomore Tevin Roberts enjoyed the end of the ceremony. “The best part of the inauguration was watching Bush get on the plane.”
