Varsity volleyball had a rough start in preseason, but is doing much better and made it to playoffs. They are now (11, 2) in league standings. This year looks to be a promising season for the young team.
League began on September 22nd with a game against Carmel. The Lady Mustangs lost, though. Even with that loss they went on and won six games straight. Many of the games were close, but they pulled through and won all of them.
To start mid-league, the Lady Mustangs played Carmel. The game was very important, having the potential to determine who wins league. The Lady Mustangs lost despite playing very hard. On October 20th the girls played against Gonzales, the girl’s were able to beat the Spartans again. On October 22nd KCHS played Anzar, the Lady Mustangs prevailed and won in four sets.
Their nest game was against Pacific Grove. Despite being in Breaker territory the Lady Mustangs won. They then played Stevenson of October 29th, which was Senior Night, and beat the Pirates for the second time. The team’s most recent game was against Santa Catalina. The game was extremely close and both teams played hard, but the Lady Mustangs won in four sets.
After the win against Santa Catalina, Kambree Borzini was excited, “Our team has improved so much and we work great together even though we’re so small. The win felt awesome and it was so exciting to pull through such an important match."
This year’s team is somewhat small, consisting of three seniors and six juniors. The two returning seniors are Bethany Carroll and Mallory Lyons. The other senior is Bettina Kofler, one of King City High School’s foreign exchange students from Brazil. The six juniors on the team are Kambree Borzini, Katie Donham, Lauren Grant, Crystal Ornelas, Kaitlyn Shaug, and Brooke Tavernetti. The Lady Mustangs are coached by Wendy Davis, with Debbie Hudson is assisting.
