On March 9, 2005, the Red Sox World Series Trophy came to our school as part of the Trophy Tour. The trophy arrived around 10 o’ clock on Wednesday and was to be displayed in the auditorium for the students and the public until 11 o clock. The tour sponsored by the Boston Red Sox organization is to commemorate the first World Series Championship by Boston in 86 years. The trophy was accompanied by our state representative Marie Parente and a few people from the Red Sox organization. When the trophy arrived, Mr. Breen allotted blocks of time for each class to go to the auditorium for viewing.
When I was allowed to go see the trophy it was during long block and we had to wait in a long line to reach the trophy. We weren’t allowed to touch the trophy, but each of us got to stand near it and some people had pictures taken with the trophy. So many people have waited 86 years to see the Red Sox win the World Series. The wait was so long that it is special to be a fan and be able to join in the team’s accomplishments. After we were able to take photos with the trophy, we were given a card that gave the trophy’s history and some special highlights about it.
Once everyone that wanted to see the trophy had been to the auditorium, the trophy needed to continue to its next stop on the tour. As the students returned to their classrooms they were left with the lasting memory that they had seen the actual World Series trophy that so many had only dreamt of seeing.
