Making a difference in the world is something junior Jessica Green and her fellow Keyettes strive to achieve in their lifetime. “Keyettes is the club for me,” Green said, “I love helping others.” Green also uses Keyettes as a way to get away from the trials and tribulations of every day life.
“It’s a way to meet people. Keyettes is made up of ‘good girls.’ There’s no drama, no fighting, and no hoes,” Green said.
The Keyettes are a volunteer group who put together service projects to make their community a better place. “We reach out to the community and try to change the world,” Green said. They participated in a canned food drive around Christmas time and their most recent service project was HIV Awareness Month. They made the announcements and ribbons for HIV Awareness and raised money to help people with AIDS in Kenya.
Geography teacher, Amy Ellis, is the sponsor for the Keyettes. “Ms. Ellis is so devoted to our club. She always does what she can to help us out,” Green said.
“Keyettes helps to make me a good person. It gets me involved. I feel I am a stronger woman because of it,” Green said, “It’s perfect for me.”
Green is aware of the advantages of being in the Keyettes. It is a great extracurricular activity to add on her transcript to send to colleges.
In the future, the Keyettes plan to make T-shirts and do a service project for breast cancer. “Keyettes makes me realize and think about the issues in my community and in the world,” Green said.
The Keyettes are mostly made up of upperclassmen and are always welcoming to new members. Any girls that are interested in helping are appreciated. Green and the rest of the Keyettes are an inspiration for us all to be the difference we wish to see in the world.
