The lanyard policy has become a controversy in our school. While it was initially meant for safety  reasons it has now become an  issue of whether or not a student is wearing their ID card.

A student not bringing their ID card  results in losing valuable class time and may even lead to suspension. Last week students who had their ID cards on their lanyards, had them taken away  because they were not in a visible place. Once the ID was confiscated the student had to serve detention after school and pick up their ID card even after they indeed brought their card.

The purpose of having your ID card on is to know if a student attends this school. It is obvious to know whether or not a student attends here, yet the student might frequently be asked by security or admisitration to have there ID shown. Why does that student have to be asked by administration to show that they attend here or not if administration already knows that that student does?

It is understandable that the ID policy was put into action for good purposes but it has resulted in some students having their education deprived, since forgeting their ID cards at home may lead to less class time and suspension.
