“One oh one oh one oh one oh!” is what the senior class of 2010 has been waiting to cheer for at their first senior pep rally at Northwest High School. The first pep rally of the 2009-2010 school year was outside at the football field on September 4, 2009. This followed a Northwest tradition of holding every first pep rally of the year outside. There are pep rallies every season to celebrate the sports for the season with the students showing school pride with the marching band playing. Northwest students were dressed accordingly in their class colors representing their class: Seniors dressed in blue, juniors in red, sophomores in green, and freshmen in yellow. As the pep rally started, Principal Lance Dempsey and new assistant Principal John Robertson announced how excited they were and looked forward to their first Northwest pep rally along with the pep rally rules that they expect students to follow.
Student Government Association (SGA) officers opened up the pep rally to announce what was coming up next. Fall sports including volleyball, soccer, and tennis all came up to announce who their captains are and when their first games are. The Northwest Varsity Cheerleading team as well as the Northwest Varsity Poms performed at the pep rally with a great start of their season. Football captains Matt Andrews and Hassan Dixon closed the pep rally with a tribute to Edwin “Dek” Miller and Shiane Dixon, teaching the students a new cheer to honor them with the chant “SD.” “Making this year great is all about having pride for every sport, every team, every club in our school, regardless of their record or who’s on the team. It really does come down to being “All for one and one for all,” and this year, we are definitely going to make that happen!” says senior class President Becky Kim.
