The sounds of girls slapping the hard volleyball can be heard throughout the gym as the girls’ Northwest varsity volleyball team blast into the fall season. The team this year is continuously working hard to improve individually and as a team, the team will know that they have accomplished this goal when they are playing some of the best teams in the county.
The team this year has eighteen girls including captains Jessica Warner, and Rachel Townsend, who will lead the team and work hard to get the best results, along with 5 girls that were moved up from JV to varsity. Coach Withers will use strategic plays to win games and get the team high in the ranks. This season the girls volleyball team started out the season with a tough loss against Poolesville which ended 3-2. Through practice and training, the girls bounced back and had three straight wins against Seneca Valley, Blair, and Whitman. In those three games the girls scored nine times and only conceded one. Days later the team had an unfortunate loss against Gaithersburg. Coach Withers hopes to keep the mentality high and practice more to start a new winning streak all the way through playoffs. The girls are working as a team and it is really showing.
Coach Stephanie Withers expects a lot from the girls. This season she has high exceptions and she expects the girls to bring their all in practice, and games. Withers also says that they have played all their easy teams so she is excited to see what is next for the girls.
