The Pledge of Allegiance brings American pride into people’s heart. It is our small piece of patriotism that we all strive to conform to. The pledge has had good, bad, and “ugly” times. The most recent controversy has been whether or not to remove the words "Under God" from one of its verses.
However, there is another much deeper controversy that comes forward when the circumstances occur. It happens when you don’t say the pledge, when you are the only one who will not salute America’s symbol.
Most people view this as insulting and unpatriotic. Even if you do not believe in God you are still forced to stand there while everyone else says America’s favorite words and you are left alone, standing and staring.
There is currently an attempt to have the phrase removed.
Despite the separation of Church and State, we still continue to print “In God We Trust” on every legal tender note and it continues to be required that you say “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. The words should not have been placed in the Pledge because it is unconstitutional and we do not have to believe in any one god.
If you are brave enough, you can either: not say the words “under god”, replace it with “without god”, or, stay silent throughout the entire Pledge.
Whether or not to say under god is not the only controversy however. There is also the question of if you want to pledge all of your loyalty to your country. Even though you are not required to say the pledge, if you take advantage of the opportunity to show that you do not think that it is right you can be discriminat
