Q: What motivated you to join the track team?
A: Out of all the other sports track seemed like the only one that I am willing to participate in. I’ve been to many track meets with my grandpa, dad and uncles. Track has been like a male traditional sport in my family. I figured that it would be nice to be on the track team at PV.
Q: How do you feel about being a long distance runner on the team?
A: Being a long distance runner feels great. I love the atmosphere of it. Just racing towards the finish line and beating my opponents is the best part of it.
Q: How are you currently progressing on the team?
A: Compared to everyone else on the team I feel like I rank as an average runner. My running is not too fast or slow. I try to keep a steady pace when running and it eases out my body’s core.
Q: What kind of technique does it take for a long distance runner to maintain a good physical condition in this sport?
A: At practices long distances runners focus on speed, timing and footwork. We do some hurdle running to gain more hip and knee flexion. Gaining that extra flexion allows our quads to have proper footwork.
Q: How does all that preparation for the sport benefit you?
A: All of that immense training helps target my leg muscles. From gaining all that flexion in my muscles I’m able to maintain balance and stamina. Even though the training is pretty tough it eventually pays off.
Q: What is your goal that you hope to achieve by the end of the track season?
A: To just stay confident and believe in myself. As long as I have my friends and family to support me then I’m sure I will achieve this goal.
