Brain Freeze: give yourself a brainfreeze

Brainfreeze, located on the corner of Esplanade and East Lassen, is the latest in a series of new restaurants jumping in on the frozen yogurt trend gripping Chico.

The hip, modern atmosphere is accented by blue and green walls that blend well with the stylish chrome tables. The latest music floats through hidden speakers both indoors and outdoors. Brainfreeze merchandise proudly displayed on the wall offers discounts and specials for customers. The staff is friendly and polite, never trying to rush customers, and on slow days they gladly make small talk with them.

The frozen yogurt tastes fairly good, but the limited number of choices is disappointing. With only four original flavors (chocolate and vanilla are standard at all times); one feels limited in his or her freedom to choose. Even if someone finds a flavor he or she likes, Brainfreeze changes flavors regularly, and one’s flavor of choice is unlikely to stay long.

While the frozen yogurt choices may be limited, the toppings most certainly are not. With almost an entire wall devoted to every kind of topping, from Swedish fish to gummy sharks, cookie bits to Coco Puffs, and whipped cream to magic shell, the vast assortment of toppings is sure to be a diabetic’s worst nightmare.

"It’s really fun to try your own mix of yogurt and toppings and make your own combination. You can try something new every time. We have the widest variety in toppings in Chico," said Brainfreeze employee Robert Kohl.

Brainfreeze is the place to promise to take children to as a reward for being good. Brainfreeze is kid friendly and enjoyable, providing a good family atmosphere. However, teenagers and older adults will also find it easy to enjoy the great, well priced frozen yogurt offered at Brainfreeze.
