Cheerleaders want a competition
By Lexi Woods
The cheerleading squad has been discussing the fact that they want to attend a competition this year. Most of the school does not know about this or even know what a cheerleading competition is. So I went to one of the captains of the cheerleading squad, Lauren Bonham (10). When I asked if there was a cheerleading competition close that the squad could go to, she replied “Yes, in Columbia and sometimes in Jeff City.” “Do the cheerleaders want to go to a competition? Why?” I questioned. “Yes, because we like to compete, it would be awesome to have a cheerleading banner, and it would be a good experience. We could get scholarships and money for the school too,” Lauren answered. I then asked “What is a cheer competition? How do you compete?” She replied with, “Basically all squads, local and far away, come together and compete by doing dance routines. You’re judged on stunts, how well it goes together, and timing.” “What do you need to do in order to go to a competition?” I questioned. “Honestly we only need money to go but we probably need practice space and we already have uniforms so yea.” Lauren replied. The cheerleaders are still competing for a chance to lift up school spirit and win another banner of their own.
