Is There A Disney Character In You?

The Wonderful World of Disney Returns

By Aaron Kliethermes

Many children have grown up watching the work of the Wonderful World of Disney. Now it’s time for a flashback. Disney has inspired kids everywhere to become a prince or princess, fly with Peter Pan, or swim with the Little Mermaid. Disney has not only inspired children, but adults as well. The famous quote from Walt Disney "If you can dream it, you can do it" has shown people everywhere that almost any dream is possible if you set your mind to it.

When I interviewed some people about whether or not Disney movies were/are a positive influence in their lives I received some exhilarating responses. I first asked, “Did you grow up watching Disney movies?”I received all yeses, except for Neven Woehr (12) who replied with, “Oh God yeah.” When I asked what Disney movie was your favorite, I received responses from “Aladdin”, “The Little Mermaid”, to “The Lion King”. I then asked if they ever found Disney inspirational. Tara Kremer (12) said, “Yes. It taught me to believe in myself.” Tiffany Crawford (11) said, “Yes. I loved the characters and the story lines, they are always hopeful.” I then asked what did/do you like most about Disney. Tara replied with, “The songs.” Kelsey Reeves (12) said “The moral of the stories.” I thought it would be interesting to know if Disney has ever made you want to ever become a Disney Prince/Princess or any other character. And if so which one and why? While Tara and Tiffany wanted to be Little Mermaid to swim all day, Kelsey wanted to be Cinderella because she got her Prince Charming. Neven said, “Yes, a prince. Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast, Just because, to be a Prince.” Everyone that I interviewed said that they watch Disney movies and/or listen to the music today. I was raised watching Disney movies while I was a child myself. My favorite movie was Aladdin where there was magic and adventure everywhere they went. I personally feel that Disney has the power to inspire people of all ages to live their dreams, and that almost everything is possible. While Disney was an apparent part of many childhoods, it is still a strong part of today. I think that everyone has that one Disney character that they wanted to be, at least I did.
