It is no secret that most movies being released these days just are not quite cutting it. That is why I hope to bring to your attention the best old movies, albums, books, etc. through this recurring article. Each issue, more and more seasoned entertainment will be reviewed and recommended.

This particular issue, the focal point is the 1979 Francis Ford Coppola classic, Apocalypse Now. Modeled after Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, This movie is perfect for fans of actions, and thrillers alike.

It’s the pinnacle of the Vietnam War, and United States Army Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) has been sent on a “non-existent” mission to kill the allegedly insane Green Beret Colonel, Walter Kurtz. Meanwhile in Cambodia, Colonel Kurtz has control of a platoon that reveres him as a god, and obeys his every whim. The army has decided Kurtz’s methods and actions are unsound and find it best to have him terminated.

The mysterious objective leads Willard and his accompanying crew on a seemingly endless thrill ride throughout the Vietnam and Cambodian jungles where they are constantly on watch for Vietcong and rebellious natives. Throughout the film, Willard and his men encounter a number of strange characters, while at the same time becoming increasingly strange themselves.

Within the first fifteen minutes, it becomes very clear that Apocalypse Now is not a run of the mill war movie by any means. From start to finish, this film never fails to entertain as you watch the star-studded cast get driven to the brink of insanity while hunting down the highly dangerous, Colonel Kurtz.

Now go grab yourself some popcorn and soda, get comfortable, and be ready for the best 153 minutes you have experienced in a long while.
