Yet another Iphone application that allows people to compete against their Facebook friends is sweeping the nation. The app, created by OMGPOP, is called Draw Something.
The game is basically described in its name. All you have to do is draw something. The point of the game is for your partner to guess what you are drawing. To start off a game with a friend, you choose a word. You are given the option to draw one of three given objects, so chances are you will be able to draw one of them. Once you choose your word, you just draw it and pray that your friend is smart enough to know what it is. After your friend plays back, your next turn consists of three steps. The first is to watch your friend try to guess your drawing, which can be pretty funny. The second is to try to guess your friend’s drawing, and then the third is to create another drawing. The game is basically never ending, and you and your friend’s goal should be to keep the streak going as long as possible.
There are many ways you can create a successful drawing. Other than just drawing a picture of the word, many players use other strategies. The most often used one would be to write hints with words around the picture, to make it a little more obvious what the drawing is of if it isn’t the clearest. Sometimes people will just write the hints and not even draw a picture. For example, one could pick the word “Obama,” and just write the words “Our president,” because they can’t draw people very well.
Despite not being publicly advertised at all, Draw Something became the top app in the app store very quickly. Many of this app’s features contributed to this. It has features that helped apps like Words with Friends and Scramble with Friends become top hits. One of them is the ability to play with Facebook friends. Being able to play with people that the players know and see every day is what makes it so fun. Another thing is that it is not a game that makes you sit on your ipod until the game is over. You can play a turn, go to school, or practice, or work, and then come back and play your next turn. When you play it, you don’t have to sacrifice more than 2 minutes of your life, but it can still entertain you.
This game is a simple but fun one, and it’s certainly worth downloading, especially since it does not cost a penny.
