Logan High Track and Field has different coaches for each event, but the overall program is run by Kelly Bennett. This year, the sprinters and mid-distance runners are coached by LHS alumni. Jessica DuHadway is the new mid-distance coach, working with the 400 meter and 800 meter runners. Tommi Kitchens is the sprint coach, working with 100, 200, and 4x1 relay teams.
Both coaches graduated last year, and came back to coach this year. “It's really fun to still be involved in the high school track team, even if you don't get to run. It's a really neat experience to coach these kids”, says DuHadway when asked about how it feels to coach the track team she ran on for all four years.
The track team has responded really well to the new coaches, and feels closer to them because of the closeness in age. Sometimes it's hard to tell teachers you can't make it to a meet. Tommi and Jess understand that there are some things you have to do and it's easier to talk to them one track runner says.
This season is almost over, and the two new coaches are hoping to continue to work with the team in the next couple years.
