"Do you know where your children are?"

Is this really going to help teenagers to not be involved with gangs, under age drinking, and drug addiction? Curfew has been around since 1997 involving almost 347 communities with a population of at least 30,000people. 80% set a nighttime curfew for teens and 26% also established a day time curfew. Curfews for teens sink in to hinder crime, reduce juvenile punishment, increase parents being involved and for cops to be able to stop teens from being involve with suspicious activities.

Some states who committed to be associated to have curfews had been successful, but others didn’t. Most teens don’t believe in it, a lot of parents don’t know about it, and cops aren’t enforcing it as a law. Teens caught after midnight could be required to accomplish up to 25 hours of community service for their first offense. A second offense could result in 50 hours of community service.

Ina parents mind, curfew is a good thing, because they know their kids are safe at home. But if they are worried about them doing drugs, having sex, drinking underage or even getting raped then they might as well lock their kids in the basement. But that wouldn’t be necessary, because that’s kidnapping your own kids. Anything that happens at night can happen during the day, and teenagers could get a false identification card just to be out and past a law enforced curfew.

Teenagers have a mind of their own just like everyone else. There maybe rules to be followed, but most of us just do whatever we want. A curfew wouldn’t break us, because as young teens we like to explore things and have fun here and there. For some teens, when their parents tell them that they have curfews, they only rebel, lie, and sneak out of their rooms and houses.

Parents should understand that they have to let their teens discover what thisworld has to offer them. They can’t always put us teens on a leash and make us do what they want. Being a young adult means being responsible for your own actions. We should be able to freely do what we like to do; because in the end the only person who could tell us to stop what we’re doing are our own selves. It’s only a matter of time of realization before we come across a point to whether we want to live the way we’re living right now or not.
