In an ice skating competition for young ladies held on Saturday afternoon at Peaks Ice Arena, a gaggle of young girls participated with the hope of taking first place. One skater in particular was reaching for the gold.

“I’m going to be as famous as Hannah Montana!”, Kiernyn Crum, a 10 year old from Springville, Utah exclaimed when asked how she thought she would do in the competition. Although considered to be the underdog, Kiernyn had high hoped for the challenge she had laid out in front of her.

Unlike most of the other girls in the competition, Kiernyn has been skating for less than 3 months! Other young women in the competition had been skating for two, three, four, or even 6 years. But this disadvantage didn’t bring her down, and if anything, it made her work harder. Even her fans worked harder!

Kiernyn’s parents in particular were very excited. “Kiernyn has been begging us to get her lessons for like, six months! After the hundredth time asking, we finally said okay”, and after Saturday’s competition, it would seem that all of Kiernyns nagging paid off.

After waiting anxiously in the hallway just off the rink, it was finally Kiernyn’s turn. She took the rink, and everybody by surprise. And even though she didn’t take first, Kiernyn was extremely happy to have done so well in her first competition.
