At-a-glance

Since the formation of the United States of America, African American people have been treated unfairly. A few of the founding fathers had slaves. African American people were forced into slavery since the founding of the United States in 1787. They were slaves until the thirteenth amendment was ratified, which was ratified in 1865. Even once the thirteenth amendment was ratified they had many, many problems with becoming and being treated like equal citizens of the United States. African Americans could no longer be forced to do involuntary servitude. However, African Americans were still very much oppressed because many white people still felt that Blacks were not equal to white people. It took African Americans many, many years to become equal to white people. Finally they came to be considered the same as white people. This made African Americans very happy because they had fought for such a long time to be treated like equals.

So here is my problem if African Americans fought for so many years to be treated like equals. Then why are African Americans given a special scholarship called the National Negro College Fund. You don’t see a special college fund called the National White People College Fund. If they want to be treated like equals then why are we now giving them special treatment?
