This hilarious musical surely proved to keep my attention. If you’ve ever heard the story of Noah and the huge ark that God told him to build, you might find this story very funny and entertaining. Directed by Linda Kerns, with music by Richard Rogers, this story which is based on “The Flowering Peach” by Clifford Odets, this story is good for anybody that might want to see what the 40 days and 40 nights on the Ark were like.
The story is about Noah, his Wife Esther, and his three boys Shem, Japeth, and Ham, and their quest to all build a three story ark. Noah also tells his son, Japeth who is un-married that he must find a wife. When a charming “golden ram” girl named Goldie meets Japeth on the street one day, he brings her to his parents. They quickly agree to her joining them. The only problem is, Japeth could never love Goldie, and refuses to marry her because he is in love with his brothers wife, Rachel. The only truly happy couples are Noah and his wife, and Shem with his wife Leah. Ham and Rachel hardly speak, and Japeth and Goldie both agree that they could never be married. Meanwhile, they wait impatiently for their 40 days and 40 nights to be over, so that they can find dry land and start over.
The music, lights, and staging of “Two By Two” truly proved wonderful. Although there are no “real” animals the lights that dance around the stage as Noah’s family is trying to get the animals on the ark truly is entertaining and hilarious.
If you go to see this musical expecting it to follow the story from Genesis word-for-word, then you might be disappointed. However, if you go expecting something altogether different and elaborate, I am sure you will be satisfied. This fun, family musical surely entertained me, and my little sisters who were laughing through the whole two and a half hours.
