Our Voice sat down with History teacher Cindy Smith to find out about being crowned "Teacher of the Year", and we also asked a few other questions we've been curious about.
OV: What does Teacher of the Year mean?
Mrs. Smith: It's an honor that my peers look upon my teaching.
OV: Did you expect to win Teacher of the Year?
Mrs. Smith: I didn't expect to win.
OV: How long have you been teaching?
Mrs. Smith: 18 years.
OV: What do you enjoy about teaching?
Mrs. Smith: The challenges. They're never the same and they're different every year.
OV: What do you like to do with your free time?
Mrs. Smith: I like to go to garage sales, movies, and travel. I've been to Scotland, Ireland, England, and Alaska. I plan to take my son traveling with me.
OV: Why did you choose to teach high school?
Mrs. Smith: I've taught all grades from Kindergarten to 12th. I've coached Basketball, Softball, and Track. I enjoy teaching History and Government.
OV: What kind of music do you listen to?
Mrs. Smith: I enjoy all types of music, like the oldies and country.
OV: What's your favorite movie:
Mrs. Smith: Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley.
