The Lasso Staff received 2 Flip cameras for filming the "Video Your Vote" segments.
The long-running PBS news show, NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, has an online edition which partnered with You Tube to produce a nationwide interactive election day project called "Video Your Vote." We at The Lasso were contacted by a Talea Miller, an editor at PBS's NewsHour Online with a proposal for Shelton students to participate in their election project. According to Ms. Miller, this project is designed to "look at the health of democracy in America by focusing on issues surrounding voting and attitudes towards voting." About 50 schools in 28 states are participating, and Shelton is one of them! They even sent us two Flip cameras to help us with the process. Students from the Cyber Journalism and Government classes will be using the cameras to interview a variety of people, both in and out of the Shelton community, from now through the election.
