Shelton vs. Canyon Creek Embed This Article

Chargers take the field
On Friday September 5, Shelton played their week two matchup against Canyon Creek in Plano, but it wasn’t much of a game. The Chargers were outmatched and outplayed by the defending 4A state champs and the number 2 small private school in the state.

The Chargers were overwhelmed from start to finish. Canyon Creek scored two touchdowns in a span of 16 seconds in the first quarter, and they scored again later to make it 21-0 after the first. The Cougars showed no signs of slowing down in the second quarter, as they scored three more times. A 5-yard run by Dylan Maxwell finally got Shelton on the board in the second, but the game was already out of reach, with the Chargers trailing 48-6 at half time. Shelton’s defense was much better in the second half against Canyon Creek’s back-ups, allowing only 14 points.  Despite this however, the offense continued to struggle and the Chargers only scored one more time on a 35-yard run by freshman Rich Morton. The game finally came to an end, with Canyon Creek coming out on top by a final score of 62-12. Senior Alyn Jackson led the Chargers in rushing with 82 yards on 16 carries. Duval Gregory, who had 7 rushes for 119 yards, led the Cougar’s strong rushing attack as they dominated Shelton on the ground, outrushing them by 292 yards.
