Inside Nick's dorm at University of Georgia
Former senior student, Nick Masinter, is now attending The University Of Georgia where he is facing the challenges of living alone, pledge-ship, and long hours of college studies.  “It’s a lot of fun, but the classes are very difficult. One of the main things I had to learn to do is plan my day,” said Nick. He claims that the studies are the hardest part, “There’s always time to have fun, but if you don’t study first, you will be in trouble.”  Although the work is hard, he says it is do-able, but wishes he was more prepared.

Pledge-ship is a topic he touched on. “Today, my frat president came up and told me he wanted to go to West Virginia, so he pulled me aside and said ‘let’s go’."  I had no choice but to drive him eight hours straight there.”  Doesn’t sound like much fun to me, yet he says he is having the time of his life.  He is required to work for the frat from 6 AM to 11:30 PM straight with breaks only to attend a class or two.  The pledges must do tasks such as paint the walls, drive places, pick up laundry, do the laundry and any other nasty chore the older brothers can think of.

Nick told me about how much he loves the experience and all of his new friends.  The one thing he misses most is the home cooked meals by his mom. “You don’t realize the responsibility you must take for yourself until you’re experiencing life on your own.”

All in all Nick loves college but misses his family and home as well. Despite the cruel hours of studying and long days of hard work, everything is great.

Nice article Joe. Ask Nick if he's traveled to Atlanta to catch up with D.J. Shockley? Someone at North Clayton High School could probably point him in the right direction...and tell them all I said hello.
