On Tuesday, August 25th, FFA members and their parents gathered in the high school commons for the annual ice cream social. The ice cream social is the first activity the FFA hosts, and all members were invited. Students involved in the organization provided multiple flavors of homemade ice cream and desserts for the event.
The annual get-together provides parents and new members with vital information about the organization. Some topics talked about were FFA Boosters (the fundraising and activity-organizing group), 66% trip (a trip at the end of the year for members that participated in at least 66% of the year’s activities), and what being involved in FFA can do for those in it. Some of the group’s upcoming fundraisers include working a booth at Apple Butter Makin’ Days and selling produce for the fruit sale. Chapter officers and Jordan Haymes, the night’s guest speaker, helped explain the importance of participation in not only the fundraisers, but also having a part in activities throughout the year.
“I feel the ice cream social was a success. We had great attendance. I hope that members got what they needed to be successful this year,” Mr. Garrett, agriculture teacher, said. The chapter officers ran through opening ceremonies to get everyone interested at the beginning, and from there, members of the organization and their families used the rest of the night to enjoy desserts and listen to the speaker about upcoming events.
