Dieing from Anorexia
Bryan Bixler, is dieing from anorexia nervosa, at the age of 39. This disease is depriving him from eating enough food. He is 5 foot 9, and weighs 82 pounds. Looking in the mirror, he has sunken eyes, and paper-thin arms and legs. Bryan has his master degree, and knows how a human’s body works, but can’t manage to nourish himself correctly.
Normally, anorexia nervosa, is a disease young woman have trouble with. There is about a 5-10% chance of males having this disease. Recently however, this percentage for males has gone up to 15%.
Bixler and his family think that his eating disorder started in his teens. Not remembering a specific time or date when this started. During his teen years, Bryan’s parents went through a divorce, and he turned to exercising and banning junk food. Bixler says "I was Mr. Healthy, I was a vegetarian, I wanted to be a runner. Before I knew it, I lost weight without realizing it."
Now, his only option left is death or getting help. Bixler says “I want to live.” To do that, he needs psychiatric and psychological care. Bryan also believes that he could benefit from coordinated treatment at an eating disorder center. The problem is not having enough insurance for him to do so. His parents have paid for those bills a couple times, and now are out of money to do so again. Will he get cured?
