At-a-glance

The recent drop in gasoline prices have local drivers sighing with relief.

The enarly 50% decline in prices is a direct reflection of the current econmoic crisis, says the EIA (Energey Information Administration). Due to the worldwide economic troubles and a drop in global energy demands, oil markets are weak, and are predicted to remain weak through the new year.

"It is such a relief to know that I can fill up my gas tank without worrying about if I'm going to have enough money for the rest of my expeses, says senior, Allison Holland.

These prices are projected to continue though 2009, averaging at $1.73 per gallon; however, nothing is set in stone.

In a release concerning the forecast of petroleum, the EIA said, "The cost will depend on the magnitude and direction of the current ecomonic downturn."
