CARMEN CARLOS of McGill Toolen Catholic High School won the Champion Division of the First Annual Southeastern Cross Country Showdown held at Veterans Park on the campus of Spain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama. Schools from across the Southeast participated in this event. There were 150 girls competing in Carmen’s race. She immediately got to the front and stayed there. She finished more than 30 seconds ahead of the number two runner from John Carroll Catholic High School of Birmingham. Her winning time of 18 minutes, 22 seconds was the best time for all the girls in all the various divisions that ran the course that day. Carmen Carlos distinguished herself last year by finishing 4th in the State Cross Country Championship as an 8th grader at St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary school, running for the McGill Toolen Catholic High School varsity cross county team.
