The junior varsity game for WestFranklin on Sept. 8 was the opposite of the varsity game played four days before. The West Franklin Falcons beat theCouncil Grove Braves 44-6.The Falconsgot the ball first on their own 45-yard line. They scored in two plays with a 50-yard run by Briar Shaffer and a 5-yardrushing touchdown by Dakota Starbuck. TheFalcons added two points with the conversion.
West Franklin went on to score two moretimes in the quarter, including a safety. After one quarter, the Falcons were ahead, 22-0.
With 1:15left in the half, the Falcons scored a touchdown ona 17-yard run by Shaffer. Shaffer and Starbuck ran the ball wellfor West Franklin. The halftime score was 28-0 with West Franklin in the lead.
CouncilGrove finally got on the board with touchdown pass with early in the thirdquarter. With less than three minutes left in the thirdquarter, Trey Harris scored a touchdown for the Falcons.
West Franklin was successful ona two-point conversion and the score was Falcons 36, Braves 6.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Tyler Webb scored the game's final touchdown on the ground, and the two-pointconversion was good.
“The coaching staff is very pleased with how well all ouryoung players performed in their season opening game,” said head coach Chuck Lee after the game.
The junior varsity’s next game is Sept.14 at Chase County.
